Proton Therapy Procedures

Proton therapy is delivered by a device called a cyclotron, which sends a high-energy beam of protons towards the tumour. A CT scan with or without an MRI scan is done for three dimensional mapping of the tumour.

Following this, a specialized system of imaging or surface guidance is used to position the patient accurately on the couch as well as monitor their movement during the treatment. Once the position of the patient is verified, the beam is turned on and proton therapy is delivered to the patient.
